A Few Chicago Pictures
Last Updated 12-10-99
I went to Chicago on December 1, 1999 with a school field trip and snapped a few photos. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. I only had one roll of film which was already partially used, so I could only take a total of about 20 pictures that day. Chicago is a huge, but beautiful city.
After getting off the bus, the first place I ventured to was appropriately named Water Tower Place, which is an 8-story mall near Chicago's historic Water Tower just to the south of the large 100-story Hancock Center. I ate a very good slice of pizza on the mezzanine level, and then browsed around and saw all the different stores. Very nice mall; by the way.
Next I went to the beautifully restored Hancock Center and paid $8.50 to go to the Observation Deck, which is on the 94th floor. The elevators travel at over 1300 feet per minute, and is a rather hasty but smooth ride both up down. The observatory provides a spectacular view of the city of Chicago and there is even an open-air walkway that you can feel the brisk Chicago wind in. I took some pictures while up here; while I do not have the best camera, these still show you what the city looks like from 94 stories above the ground. I got a picture of the then under-construction Park Hyatt hotel, a new 67-story condo/hotel highrise across the street from the Hancock Center.
After visiting the Hancock Center, it was time for the charter bus to take us to the Art Institute. The Institute does not allow photography of any kind, so I could not take any pictures from inside. However, I did snap a couple outside the building, and in the park behind there. There's some kind of outdoor music shell directly west of the Art Institute.
I hope to be visiting Chicago again soon, and I'll take more pictures for this page.
